Rahul Dravid

India miffed with Dravid dismissal

The Indian team has expressed its displeasure at the way Rahul Dravid was declared out in the second innings.

Captain Anil Kumble and coach Gary Kirsten have lodged a complaint with match referee Allan Hurst post play on day 3.

The Indians expressed their reservations over the time taken by the Lankans before asking for the review and also the time taken by the third umpire himself before delivering his verdict.

The Indian team is clearly miffed with the time Sri Lankan captain took before asking for a review of the decision after the umpire turned down an appeal against 'The Wall.'

Dravid was mighty upset after he was asked to walk back to the pavillion towards the fag end of the third day in Galle. He left the field, fuming at the decision by the third umpire.

Muthiah Muralitharan's delivery pitched way outside off stump before striking Dravid in line, as the Sri Lankans went up in a huge appeal. Field Umpire Billy Doctrove, however was too impressed by the appeal and ruled in favour of the Indian batsman.

The decision didn't go down too well with the Lankan skipper, who ran across to Doctrove and had an animated discussion before finally signalling for an umpire review.
Jayawardene tried to explain his stance after the day's play.

"They have not given us a certain time. They have said that certainly we cannot ask from our camp in the dressing room after a replay and that it has to be done fairly quickly like whether it will be 10 seconds, 15 seconds, 20 seconds or 25 seconds," he explained.

"With the LBW, the umpire is the one who is making the decision so I wanted to know whether he has made the obvious mistake or not. If it is caught behind or a bad pad or something then I can ask the guys around or the wicket keeper or whatever," he further stated.

"The field umpire thought that it stuck outside the off stump and he gave a reason. That is when I made up my mind to go for it (seeking referral on Dravid's decision)."

The reserve Third Umpire Gamini Silva -- a Lankan, reached the controversial conclusion after viewing television replays, the Ball tracker and the pitch map projections.
