Andrei Arshavin

Arshavin keen on Barca move - Butko

Russian Football Federation president Vitaly Butko claims playmaker Andrei Arshavin has his heart set on a move to Barcelona.

Manchester City, Newcastle, Arsenal and AC Milan are just a few of the clubs reportedly interested in the Zenit St Petersburg star who has impressed at Euro 2008.

But Butko told Spanish newspaper Sport: "Andrei has a dream to play for Barcelona, it is, together with the Russian national team, his favourite team."

He added: "He could easily play and show all his quality at Barcelona. Andrei doesn't have less quality than players like Deco."

Despite being banned for Russia's first two games, Arshavin has excelled since then and the playmaker's scintillating performances have helped his side tear Switzerland apart before securing a victory over Holland.

Zenit coach Dick Advocaat has already revealed that Arshavin has told Zenit he wants a move abroad.

"Arshavin has told us his intention is to change clubs," he said. "And we are already looking for a replacement if his departure is confirmed."
