Evra: I knew Ronaldo would stay
Manchester United's Patrice Evra claimed he was confident all along that Cristiano Ronaldo would stay at the club.
The Portuguese dazzler was the subject of a long-drawn transfer soap opera as Real Madrid attempted to break the world record to snag him from the clutches of the Red Devils and despite admitting that the thought of leaving United did cross his mind, Ronaldo ultimately decided to stay at Old Trafford for the time being at least.Ronaldo has confessed that he expects a mixed reception from United fans during the new season, especially after creating unrest in the European champions’ dressing room with his antics, but Frenchman Evra begged to differ.
"I have always believed he would stay," the Frenchman told L'Equipe.
"I had a few phone calls with him and then he sent me a text message to tell me he will finally stay.
"The media made more of the story, but now the matter is closed.
"Will that cause any trouble inside the group? No. When he came back the squad all welcomed him.
"I am sure he will have another great season."
