Brewers sign veteran INF Lamb

The Milwaukee Brewers added depth to their bench for the stretch run, signing veteran infielder Mike Lamb on Friday.

Lamb, 32, joins the Brewers after getting released by the Minnesota Twins earlier Friday. In 81 games, he hit .233 with a home run and 32 RBI.

Not eligible for postseason play, Lamb is expected to play mainly at third base for Milwaukee, which holds a four-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies in the race for the National League wild card.

In a corresponding move, the Brewers designated catcher Lou Palmisano for assignment to clear room for Lamb on the 40-man roster.
