Ibanez bats Mariners past Ray
Raul Ibanez's solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Seattle Mariners to a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Ibanez stroked a fastball from Rays reliever Dan Wheeler (2-5) to right field, snapping a 1-1 tie and giving the Mariners their fourth win in the last five games.
The 36-year-old Ibanez has posted a .429 batting average (12-for-28) with three home runs and 16 RBIs over his previous seven contests.
At US Cellular Field, Miguel Cabrera collected three hits and three RBIs while Carlos Guillen scored three times as the Detroit Tigers snapped their six-game losing streak with an 8-3 triumph over the Central leading Chicago White Sox.
Zach Miner (6-4) allowed two runs - one earned - and seven hits in six innings.
In Arlington, Mike Mussina pitched seven scoreless innings and Derek Jeter homered to lead the New York Yankees to a 3-0 win over the Texas Rangers.
Mussina (15-7) scattered eight hits and walked one while striking out six en route to his 15th win of the season.
Finally, AJ Burnett overcame some early struggles to win his fourth straight start as the Toronto Blue Jays posted a 6-4 win over the Oakland Athletics.
Scott Rolen scored twice and drove in two runs for the Blue Jays, who improved to 24-17 under new manager Cito Gaston after their four-game sweep of the Athletics.
